A KENYAN MP on saturday criticised the NARC government for failing to issue identity cards to Ugandan women married to Kenyan citizens, saying such women led miserable lives without jobs.

Amagoro legislator in Teso district Sospeter Ojaamong said although there were 25,000 Ugandan women who had lived in Kenya with their husbands for over 30 years, they were not catered for during national planning and resource allocation since they were unregistered.

Ojaamong said border districts, including Teso, Busia, Mt. Elgon and Trans Nzoia were facing too many problems and when it comes to immigration procedures, the picture was not rosy.

“The NARC government needs to do something urgently about the registration of Ugandan women married to Kenyans.
“They cannot be ignored any longer because they are straining the little available resources,” he said.

“These ladies are second to none in providing love and tender care to their husbands and children and we cannot chase them after all these years with many forgone alternatives,” Ojaamong added.
