THE Government should increase funding for information and communication technology (ICT) equipment for schools if students are to perform well in sciences, SchoolNet Uganda’s executive director, Daniel Kakinda, has said.

“Enhancing ICT in schools requires more resources. We need equipment to connect schools to digital libraries, newspapers and textbooks,” Kakinda said.

He was presenting a paper on The Role of ICT In Advancement of Education during a seminar at the Uganda Institute of Communication Technology at Nakawa recently.

He said increased funding would support efforts by Non-Governmental Organisation and the private sector in providing ICT to schools.

He said SchoolNet had allocated sh174.6m to set up telecentres in Muntuyera High school, Bweranyangi Girls, Ngora High School, Bukomero SS and Bukooli College.
