THERE was panic at the National Insurance corporation building in Kampala as two hand grenades were discovered in an office table drawer in one of the rooms housing the RDC’s office.

A joint force of Police, the Presidential Guard brigade and the Joint Anti-terrorism Task Unit searched the building for other bombs but did not find any more.

Work momentarily came to a halt in the left wing of the building, which houses the RDC’s four-roomed offices, a Chinese restaurant and Pilkington Medical Centre. The wing also accommodates kampala Movement chairman Nyombi Thembo’s office.

But it was Kyeyune Nakanjako, a mass mobiliser in the RDC’s office, who saved the lives of many when she insisted that a table that was being transferred to her office first be cleaned. That is when the bombs were found.

The table was being transferred from the office of the head of LDUs, Sam Mangen Okum, who has just replaced Maj. Kiwanuka.

Makindye and Nakawa RDCs, Edward Ssekabanja and Mpimbaza Hashaka, who were at the scene, said the grenades had been planted to kill them.
However, RDC Stanley Kinyatta dismissed the claims by his deputies.
