PREMIER Apolo Nsibambi has clarified that the sh5m that is being given to cultural leaders is facilitation and not salary, reports Josephine Maseruka.

He said the Government did not invite cultural leaders to line up for money at the gender offices.

Nsibambi said the Permanent secretary in the gender ministry, Ralph Ochan, wrote to cultural leaders’ private secretaries to come and collect the cheques.

He dismissed reports that cultural leaders were being paid salary.

Nsibambi made the remarks on Monday at his office while meeting The New Vision chief executive officer, William Pike, associate editor Maurice Ssekawungu and Bukedde editor Geoffrey Kulubya.

He said the money was to effect article 246 (3)(c) of the Constitution that provides for facilitation of cultural leaders.
