BANK of Uganda (BOU) will today open a regional office in Gulu to service the northern districts including the West Nile region, BOU spokesman Juma Walusimbi said recently.
Walusimbi said during an interview that President Yoweri Museveni would commission the office next month.
“The regional office will facilitate the collection of statistics, market Treasury bills and bonds, monitor forex bureaux if they are set up and distribute BOU publications and any other functions assigned by the central bank,†he said.
BOU has regional offices in Mbarara, Arua, Jinja while one for Mbale will be completed next year.
Walusimbi said the regional office that the central bank had in Gulu was destroyed during the 1979 war. He said BOU has been using Uganda Commercial Bank Building on a cost-sharing basis.
