Abbas acted against set rules

IT has always been acclaimed that it is only an idle mind that indulges in gossip. That is not the case with Uganda Cranes Egyptian coach Mohammed Abbas.

The man acted very unprofessionally when he told the Ghanaian press last week that the team he was leading to Kumasi for yesterday’s World Cup/ Nations Cup qualifier against the West African nation was very weak, had trained for a few days and that the local body was having in-house fights.

Though, whatever Abbas said was the truth, it was very unprofessional of him to wash the linen in public.

I would not approve what the delegation leadership did when they put a ban on the Egyptian against speaking to the press. But I am tempted to agree with them after he again engaged in an open bust up in front of the players and Ghanaian security with assistant coach Sam Ssimbwa for addressing the media.

Abbas seems to be part of the indiscipline in Ugandan football.

Sports dictates demand total discipline — come what may. We have to lead by example; to always remain gentlemen.
