Man charged over false information

A TRADER at St. Balikuddembe market has been charged with giving false information to the Police after he claimed that Peter Mukasa Bakaluba, the Mukono North MP, had hired him to kill Betty Nambooze, an employee of the town council.

Stephen Kalyango, 28, of najjanankumbi was remanded in Luzira prisons by the Buganda Road Court magistrate, Olive Kazaarwe, after he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The case was adjourned until the next hearing on September 16.

Nambooze, a personnel officer at Mukono town council, was found guilty of corruption last year and was sentenced to two years in jail. Bakaluba was a key prosecution witness in the case. Nambooze was accused of receiving a sh60,000 bribe form a herbalist.

Nambooze declared intentions to stand against Bakaluba in the 2006 parliamentary elections.
