PEOPLE busy at work but have a patient in hospital or an elderly parent at home can now relax at work.

Bed-Side Service Ltd, a local company, has launched the first professional nursing care services to take care of patients and the elderly at home.

“Because of the day-to-day busy schedule and commitments, many people can’t personally look after their loved ones,” Ahmed Kibirige, the executive director of Bed-Side Services, told guests at the launch at Hotel Africana on Friday.

Kibirige said although nursing care was not new in Uganda, such help provided by the extended family and maids often resulted into a number of problems, including death of the patient.
“A maid may not differentiate between a lotion and syrup, hence administering the former to a patient,” he said.

Kibirige said Bed-Side Service intends to provide affordable but high quality comprehensive nursing care services.

He said there were specialised personnel to handle different tasks such as physiotherapy, postnatal services, bed-confined patients, counselling and insurance-related services.

The commissioner for clinical services in the health ministry, Dr. jancito Amandua, asked the firm to consider including ambulance services.
