PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni on Friday promoted the acting Chief of Military Intelligence, Lt. Col. James Mugira, to a full Colonel.
Four other officers who completed higher military courses were promoted from majors to lieutenant colonels. They are Joseph Musanyufu, who completed a senior military course in Alabama, US, Golooba, who completed a senior military course in Ghana, Obura and Akena.
In a related development, sources have said an imminent army reshuffle is still awaiting the presidential assent to the UPDF bill, which the clerk to Parliament sent to the President two weeks ago. A senior army officer said the reshuffles were expected following the new UPDF Act.
Thirty senior officers, among them three lieutenant generals Salim Saleh, Elly Tumwine and David Tinyefuza, graduated last month from the Senior Staff and Command College in Kimaka, Jinja.
The graduates were sent on a 21-day leave that ended on August 29. They were to be deployed by the Chief of Personnel and Administration (CPA).
Army spokesman Lt. Col. Shaban Bantariza said on reporting to the CPA, the graduates were added seven more days of leave “to allow for placementsâ€.
Bantariza said after seven days, the officers and many others who completed courses elsewhere would be deployed He said, “Training, promotions and appointments must all be based on the standardised establishments as contained in the Defence Review Programme and UPDF Act.â€
