THEY had turned up for the last funeral rites of Col. Ssonko Lutaaya but were shocked when they were turned back because the High Court had stopped it.
Friends and relatives of the late Ssonko had gathered at his home in Kanyanya, a city suburb, recently when they were told that his daughter Phiona Babirye Nabisubi had petitioned the court to stop the function.
Nabisubi filed the application before Justice Roy Byaruhanga last month.
She claimed that her two brothers, Rogers ssembatya Ssonko and Jjemba Ssalongo, and her sister Najjemba Gwokyalya had mismanaged their late father’s estate.
Court issued an interim order on August 17 stopping any activity taking place on the late Ssonko’s estate until after 15 days from the date of issue.
However, Norah nakirigya, the late Ssonko’s next of kin, expressed dissatisfaction with the court order, saying the administrator General had already resolved the distribution of assets among her late brother’s eight children.
Nakirigya claimed that Nabisubi was being influenced by people with interest in her late brother’s property.
