TWELVE-YEAR-old Rogers Ddumba who lived with his intestines hanging out for 12 years, can now pass stool normally after undergoing an operation.

“He is now doing well. His situation is improving,” Ddumba’s father, Patrick Kaye, said.

Ddumba was born with an imperforate anus and used to pass out stool through his intestines.

Ddumba, a P5 pupil at St Thomas Bazadde Primary School in Bweyogerere underwent a free two-hour operation at Mulago Hospital. Doctors first treated the exposed intestines before rectifying the anatomical disabilities.

He had earlier undergone two operations at Mulago Hospital, but failed to afford the last one because his father could not raise the required sh0.8m.

The New Vision highlighted Ddumba’s plight and many people responded with offers of help.

Kaye thanked the public for the generous contribution towards Ddumba’s operation and added that doctors were still examining him, but he will be fine.
