WORLD steeplechase champion Dorcus Inzikuru was yesterday voted Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) personality of the month of August.

Inzikuru got the accolade after her stunning 3000m steeplechase win at the world championship in Helsinki.

Inzikuru, who polled 395 votes, beat teenage cricketer Ronald Semanda by a margin of 90. Semanda was applauded for leading the national U-19 team to their second World Cup appearance.

Meanwhile, Boniface Kiprop will not be running his favourite 10000m, as it has not been included on the programme of the IAAF Athletics Final in Monaco this weekend.

Kiprop, who has run the third season best of 26:39.77 over the distance is most likely to take part in the 5000m race when IAAF announces the final entries later this week.

IAAF selects the top ranked long distance runners and names them to either run in the 3000m or 5000m races.

According to Kiprop’s Ugandan manager Godfrey Nuwagaba, he is expected to be selected for the 5000m, where he has thrice improved his personal best — which also doubles as the national record to 12:58.43.

“I think Kiprop will be running in 5000m. He has not taken part in any 3000m race,” said Nuwagaba.
Kiprop has been training in London for the IAAF season’s final event.
Inzikuru, who has run a season’s best of 9:15.04, will be competing in the 3000m event as favourite tomorrow.
