THE New Vision Printing and Publishing Company will undertake a new euros 320,000 (about sh585.6m) upgrade of its printing operations by the end of the year.

The upgrade is aimed at raising the print quality of its newspapers, giving readers and clients greater value for money, a top company official said yesterday.

William Pike, the chief executive officer, was hosting advertising agencies, corporate advertisers and contract printing clients for a well-attended breakfast meeting at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

“A new computer-to-plate outputter, the first in Uganda, will produce sharper images and more stable colour will be installed by December, while driers, will be installed in October. This will give a crisper appearance to the printed products,” he said.

Pike assured advertisers of access to a wide range of readers through various new products offered by Vision Group including magazines like Bride and Groom, City Beat and Premiership, a football magazine that is now circulating over 20,000 copies per month.

He reminded the breakfast that The New Vision was still the market leader.

The average daily circulation according to the Audit Bureau of Circulation for January to June was 33,658.

Pike challenged other Ugandan newspapers to get the ABC to verify their circulation figures since it was not expensive and gave credibility.

He expected a jump in New Vision'’ ABC figures as a result of innovations like the PLE pullout that pushed circulation on key days to over 40,000.

Pike said New Vision had the biggest Ugandan website with 358,000 unique visitors and 2,750,000 page viewers per month.

He said New Vision did well financially last year but expected the 2005/6 financial year to be very positive.
