THE Police Fraud Squad and an official from the Sara Lee Household and Bodycare Ltd in Kenya have impounded over 10 cartons of fake Kiwi shoe polish from traders in Gulu.
The polish was impounded in an operation by detective assistant Joseph Elyano of CID headquarters in Kampala and Raphael Nzau, the security manager Sara Lee Company on Tuesday.
Briefing journalists, Elyano said this was also part of a sensitisation exercise to retailers dealing in fake shoe polish to know the danger of dealing in fake products.
“We have counterfeit Kiwi on the market and we have to protect the name of the original producers who pay tax on their imports and also protect the consumers from these counterfeitsâ€, Elyano said. He said, “We are looking forward to catching the ‘big fish’ behind the importation of the counterfeit Kiwi.â€
Elyano said the makers of the counterfeits forged the Kiwi logo and other features which makes it difficult to differentiate it from the genuine Kiwi.
