Pupils of Hoima Public Primary School in Western Uganda recently came to Kampala, for a one-day visit. For many of them, who had never been to the city center, it was an experience that would never be forgotten. Carol Natukunda spoke to some of them
Susan Nsekanabo, 14, P7 I have been to Kampala before, but never had a chance of visiting interesting places. Moreover, I was so young; I didn’t know where we were going. I just had my parents mentioning that we were heading to the city. My ambition is to be a policewoman like my father. But I don’t know if the job would involve as much touring, as we have had today. I advise teenagers to be faithful to God.
Moses Tumwesigye, 14, P5 I had never been here, it was great visiting The New Vision offices and Hot Loaf Bakery specifically, which gave us some loaves of bread.
Fred Abigaba, 12 I came to Kampala when I was much younger. My family and I had come to visit my auntie. But this tour was particular special, especially looking at The New Vision headquarters.
Gertrude Amanya, 13, P6 Looking at Lake Victoria physically was the one thing that I always dreamed of. I had always seen it on a map, as the largest lake in East Africa, and may be on TV. This is my first time in Kampala.
Sharon Kyakusiima, P.5, 11 I always wondered how a capital city looked like, but more so, Entebbe International Airport. I saw the aeroplanes; I never imagined they were so big.
Tom Bukulu, 12, P4 In Hoima, there aren’t as many vehicles as there are in Kampala. I was so surprised to see them. May be everyone owns a car!
Gloria Sanyu, 15 P7 I have enjoyed my first tour, and I hope one day, one time I will get a chance of coming back. I had never been to Kampala. If I had had a chance of visiting some of my age mates here, I would give them one message; To abstain from sex and respect their parents or guardians.
Roger Mitegeki, 12, P6 This is my first time in the city. I cannot wait to tell my family about it. Hot Loaf has given us bread, and I am very grateful. We looked at how stories are written in The New Vision.
