THE Presidential Guard brigade (PGB) spokes-man, Lt. Edison Kwesiga, yesterday refuted claims by the Forum for democratic Change (FDC) that some officers were wearing civilian attire underneath their uniforms, fearing violent reprisal.

In a statement, Kwesiga dismissed the claims by FDC’s publicist Wafula Ogutu and appealed to politicians to “stop using PGB in partisan politics.”

“PGB is not a personal army as it is claimed. Like anybody else in the UPDF, recruitment is done through the office of the Chief of Operations and Training and the Chief of Personnel,” the statement read.

He said the PGB was here for the presidency irrespective of who the president was. He added, “Should Ogutu become president, the PGB will offer him protection.”

Addressing reporters last week, Ogutu said some soldiers in the PGB were wearing civilian attire under their uniforms, fearing attack should the Government fall.
