MANGO, the mobile phone arm of uganda telecom, has connected entire northern region, beating a government deadline that required the region covered by at least end of 2005.

The northern regional marketing coordinator, James Mutebi, revealed this at the launch of Mango network in Koboko last week.

Koboko, whose network extends to southern Sudan and northeastern DR Congo, was switched on to complete coverage of northern region at a colourful ceremony presided over by the district chairman, Francis Dramuke.

Mutebi said Mango was the first telecom firm to extend network to internally displaced people’s camps that had been tagged “impenetratable” due to insecurity.

“We also recognise that affordability is critical for business and the country at large. That’s why we have the most affordable call rates across all networks,” Mutebi said.

He said Mango had taken the lead of introducing the lowest denomination, emulated by others.

Dramuke said Mango was the only network available at Oraba Immigration post at the Uganda-Sudan border, which had helped travelers.
