POLICE is leaving nothing to chance in its quest to win its first Super League soccer title.

Asumani Lubowa’s side headed yesterday for a four-day residential camp in Jinja to prepare for Friday’s belated City Tyres final against SC Villa. “At this point concentration is a key factor. We want everyone to be focused,” said assistant Police coach Charles Ayieko.

The high-flying cops have even kept the Jinja camp’s location a secret. “We shall move straight from the camp to Namboole on Friday,” said Ayieko.

This will be the first time Police go to camp for a local encounter. Head coach Lubowa believes the shift in Uganda’s soccer balance of power will be confirmed this weekend.

The Police tactician feels his side’s imperious form, that claimed the scalps of KCC and Express in the City Tyres Super League this season, justifies them as favourites going into the game.

“This has been our best season. People think Villa are favourites, but they will be shocked on Friday,” warned Lubowa.

The final at Namboole will be familiar terrain for Villa but uncharted territory for Police, who have not won a major trophy in their decade-long history. The Jogoos on the other hand are seeking their 17th league title.

Villa and Police’s attacking fronts have been boosted by the return of youngsters Robert Ssentongo and Isaac Mulyanga respectively. The two had previously gone for professional stints abroad.

Meanwhile, FUFA competitions boss Kavuma Kabenge has refuted reports that the City Tyres final will kick-off at 9pm.

“As far as I know, kick-off was set at 7pm. This has never changed,” said Kabenge, dismissing the late kick-off time set by Namboole management.

“It’s the FUFA normalisation committee and not Namboole that is in charge of the final,” insisted Kabenge.

Namboole fronted a late kick-off to allow artists Juliana Kanyomozi and Messach Semakula perform.

The final, that will be played a month after the semi-finals, has lacked clarity with dates and venues a contention.
