THE UPDF lawyer accused of carrying out armed robberies was found in possession of an assortment of army uniforms and guns allegedly used by robbers in the city, the general military court martial has heard
Emmanuel Mwambale of the Violent Crime Crack Unit (VCCU) told the court chaired by Lt. Gen. Elly Tumwine that Sgt. Moses Mugerwa was keeping the guns and uniforms at his home in Kanyanya, a city suburb.
Mugerwa, who has been representing suspects including senior army officers facing charges of inflating the army payroll with non-existent soldiers at the army court, was arrested in April by VCCU after he allegedly robbed a Catholic priest of sh2.5m.
Mugerwa, who was assigned by the State to represent suspects arrested by the now defunct Operation Wembley and those without money to hire private lawyers, was jointly charged with two civilians, Lawrence Kayira and Dick Lutalo.
