CLUB Volts discotheque has joined the growing list of sponsors for Badru Lusambya’s October 22 fight against Czech boxer Tomas Kugler.
The club’s managing director Buhaiti Hussein said they will offer entertainment and financial assistance for the fight that will be staged at Lugogo.
Club Volts joins other sponsors Hotel Africana, Jomayi Property Consultants and Kampala councillor Godfrey Nyakana who has offered $2000 (sh3.7m).
Big Strikers directors Emmanuel Mwesigwa and Godfrey Kiwanuka said yesterday that sh47m is required to successfully host the fight.
“It’s not an easy task to secure the money, but we are working round the clock to ensure that it is a success,†said Kiwanuka.
The contest is a Commonwealth light middleweight elimination.
Victory for Lusambya will have him making a shot at the Commonwealth title early next year.
Lusambya’s future will be top on the agenda for his promoters at the World Boxing Convention in Cadiz, Spain over the weekend. A delegation led by Nyakana and UPBC boss Celestino Mindra – a WBC board member – arrives in Spain tomorrow.
