PRESIDENT Museveni has vowed to rid the civil service of unpatriotic officials who are bent on sabotaging government development programmes.
The President, commissioning the $10m (sh18b) Jinda International Textile Corporation, formerly Lira Spin, also pledged to revitalise and boost the textile sector, saying industrialisation and value addition is the only way forward for the country’s development.
“A country with factories, industries and a good services sector is what we should gear for because they will employ more people. Countries like Japan have been lifted by the growth of industries. Whoever opposes establishment of factories in Uganda is an enemy to the Government and this is not acceptable,” said Museveni.
Congratulating the proprietor of the mill Ms. Jing Hong, Museveni said the work of the Movement has been to fight traitors especially those who are anti- investors whom he described as the enemy of Uganda.
Museveni said such people sabotaged the construction of Bujagali Power Station.
He was, however, happy that the power project was at last set to take off.
He hailed Jing Hong for reviving the mill that had been idle for two decades.
James Arumus, the board chairman said the group had finished the first stage of the refurbishment and were employing over 140 people but 600 more jobs would be created in the second phase.
