KAP NGO denied licence

THE renewal of the licence for Kalangala Action Plan’s (KAP) Centre for Education Development Organisation (CEDO), has been put on hold, report Apollo Mubiru and Mary Karugaba.

THE renewal of the licence for Kalangala Action Plan’s (KAP) Centre for Education Development Organisation (CEDO), has been put on hold, report Apollo Mubiru and Mary Karugaba.
The chairperson of the NGO board, which renews licences, Joyce Mpanga (above), yesterday told the parliamentary committee on internal affairs that CEDO had not adhered to the laws that govern NGOs and that its activities had been characterised by political overtones.
“The board is still studying the CEDO application for renewal and we are considering telling them to drop the political connotation and be registered as an NGO. If they fail to take our advice they can register as a company in the Registrars General’s office,” Mpanga said.
However, internal affairs minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda said most of the press reports against KAP were false.
“My ministry has not only monitored KAP, it has also guided it. We call them and talk to them. We have talked to Mutale and his people. I think the alarm made against KAP is uncalled for,” Rugunda said.
