SIR — Mr. John Kwesiga’s letter entitled “Threaten South Africa as well” in which he calls President Museveni “an Asian tiger” is unfortunate.

SIR — Mr. John Kwesiga’s letter entitled “Threaten South Africa as well” in which he calls President Museveni “an Asian tiger” is unfortunate.

Kwesiga was responding to the President’s recent statement on Col. Kiiza Byesigye and his political asylum in South Africa from where he constantly continues to wage a war of words against Uganda.

This is contrary to the Geneva Convention of July 28, 1951. This particular convention was ratified by both contracting countries on July 19, 1965 by the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Africa on January 12, 1996. It is under these provisions that Museveni has consulted with his fellow leaders on the issues affecting the security of Uganda.

It does not matter under what status Byesigye resides in South Africa.

Brig. Otti of the LRA, PRA and ADF existence in the Republic of Congo are a real threat to our security and should be appropriately addressed.

the President cannot take this lightly as Kwesiga seems to prefer.
