The noise is simply intolerable

SIR — What happened to the noise detectors that NEMA donated to Police? I am a resident of Bukoto, Nsimbiziwomye near Ntinda. In this neighbourhood, we have a church, Victory Church, and a mosque a few metres apart.

SIR — What happened to the noise detectors that NEMA donated to Police? I am a resident of Bukoto, Nsimbiziwomye near Ntinda. In this neighbourhood, we have a church, Victory Church, and a mosque a few metres apart.

These two houses of God have made it a point to out-compete each other in terms of noise pollution. Now that the Muslims are fasting, the noise has become unbearable! At 4:am each morning we are awakened by screams from the mosque. Thirty minutes later, they are still praying through extremely loud speakers atop the mosque. Aren’t there laws in this country that govern sound levels?

Do these laws also apply to these houses of God? Can’t they worship without the external loud speakers? I appeal to Muslim leaders, Police and all concerned those concerned to help us and stop this noise pollution.
