SIX former British American Tobacco (BATU) leaf managers have sued the company, claiming sh190m in terminal benefits.
They told the High court that BATU had turned a deaf ear to their demand for terminal benefits.
The plaintiffs are Erisa Matovu, Benjamin Kawuki, Augustine Kyamuhangire, Anthony Mugoya, Allan Katabazi and Misuseera Waigambi.
Recruited in 1992, they retired in August this year and started asking for their terminal benefits.
According to the case papers, the money claimed includes monthly contributions to BATU’s staff pension scheme, which is supposed to be paid upon retirement.
The plaintiffs also claim unspecified damages for breach of contract and costs of the suit.
The High Court’s Deputy Registrar, Paul Gadenya, sent summons to BATU on September 23, giving the company 15 days to defend itself.
The plaintiffs’ lawyers are Muwema, Mugerwa and Company Advocates.
