UGANDA Athletics Federation (UAF) has clarified that they will cater for only eight foreign athletes in the MTN Kampala International marathon, though other elite athletes will be allowed to compete with clearance from their respective federations.

The second edition of the MTN Marathon is set for November 20 in Kampala, and will run alongside a 10km fun run, 10km corporate and a 10km wheel chair competition.

According to the federation secretary Beatrice Ayikoru, the federation will cater for the external and internal costs of two athletes from the four invited countries for the marathon. The countries include Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Rwanda.

“We will be paying for their travel expenses, registration and internal expenses. Other foreign runners will pay the recommended fee of $25 (sh47,000) for the fun runners like tourists while elite runners will need to pay the money and also get clearance from their respective federations.

“This is an open race but has to be conducted under IAAF rules,” said Ayikoru.

IAAF rules want athletes to be cleared by their respective federations.
