THE Luweero-based Ndejje University has held its seventh graduation, with 435 students, 213 of them female, walking away with certificates, diplomas and degrees in 13 disciplines.

President Yoweri Museveni, in a speech read by education minister Namirembe Bitamazire, commended the university for supplementing government efforts in offering tertiary education.

“It is courses such as guidance and counselling, community development and computer science that we look forward to, to develop our country,” he said.

The university produced nine pioneer graduates in guidance and counselling, two in computer science (diplomas) and six for Bachelors in Development Studies.

The president urged the university to be innovative and focus on marketable courses leading to job creation and essential for the globalised world.

Museveni said the country was counting on the graduates to contribute to national development, urging them to cast aside snobbery and be ready to fit in society.

The chancellor, retired Bishop Yokana Mukasa, expressed confidence in the institution’s products.

In a speech read by Dr George Ssenabulya, Mukasa, however, cautioned the graduands to remain morally upright and focus on competency.

The vice-chancellor, the Rt. Rev. Dr Michael Ssenyimba, urged the education ministry to develop a new and positive perspective to private universities.
