Since we changed from a one-party to a multiparty system of governance, many politicians have uttered shocking statements against the Democratic Party (DP).
Statements such as “DP will never rule this country” are common on radio talk shows.

I wish to remind fellow Ugandans of two famous Roman sayings, which are relevant to the political situation in our country: “Nobody knows what will happen tomorrow, not even the Pope who represents God on Earth”.
“Nemo securus”, meaning, “No one is secure in this world”.

The problem with us here is we forget very quickly. In 1981 when President Museveni and some Baganda, launched a liberation war in Luweero Triangle, some people laughed it off saying, “Does this Nyankole man think he can topple Obote’s government, which has a well-trained formidable army under the command of the fearless Oyite Ojok?”

Today, we ask ourselves, “Where is Milton Obote and his well-trained army?

When Obote overthrew both the first president Mutesa II and the 1962 Constitution, one Lango politician commented, “The Lango Dynasty will rule Uganda for 60 years”. Where are they now?

True, DP has not ruled Uganda since the time of internal self-government under the late Ben Kiwanuka. At the time of independence DP was thrown out of power because of the Kabaka Yekka/ UPC unholy alliance.

Later, Obote brought his so-called revolution to crash Buganda. We battled the revolution from May 24, 1966 to January 26, 1986, when Ugandans achieved victory brought by the NRM/NRA. Since then, we have been under one-party rule. I know there is no way one can defeat a party in power under a one-party system.

Ugandans held general elections in 1962. They should have held elections again in 1967 but Obote had launched his revolution, the system/plans to crash Buganda were in high gear, parties were banned and there was a state of emergency in Buganda. We should have held elections again in 1972 but we did not because Idi Amin had taken over power in the 1971 coup detat. We did not have elections in 1977 because we were still under military rule.

We chased away Idi Amin in 1979 with the assistance of Tanzania.

On December 10, 1980, Ugandans held general elections and DP won. Paul Muwanga, the then chairman of the ruling Military Commission gave the victory to UPC and Obote.
In February 1981, Ugandans launched a liberation struggle in Luweero and achieved victory in January 1986.

As a result, Ugandans have achieved the following:
-The restoration of the Buganda Kingdom.

This enabled people of different tribes to live, work and transact business in Buganda (Kampala) as the base.
-President Museveni allowed the people to make their own constitution in 1995 and we are happy we are not ruled by military decrees any more.

-The multi-party system of governance has been restored and fully entrenched in our constitution.

And herein lies the answer for all people who have been saying DP will never rule Uganda. With the transition from a one-party to a multi-party system, we can clap our hands and dance on the streets because we have been democratically liberated. Hence the doors of State House have been opened for DP to enter.

According to our strategy, DP will win the 2006 general elections. DP will again win in 2011 and again in 2016.

Following its motto: “Truth and Justice”, DP will bridge the gap between Baganda and other tribes. DP will also launch economic plans to empower all Ugandans.

DP will bring coffee experts to eradicate the coffee virus, which destroyed the coffee crop in Buganda, plunging Buganda into perpetual poverty. DP will promote the travel and tourism industry by reviving Uganda Airlines.

We shall revive the coffee and lint marketing boards and buy back the institutions the present government had sold. The new parliament under the DP leadership will amend the banking law to allow Dr Sulaiman Kiggundu and other Ugandans run their banks.

We shall set up a new tourism ministry to boost tourism to international standards, making Uganda a world tourism destination to rival South Africa and Kenya.

Agricultural output will be boosted. The DP government will encourage ordinary people to grow more cash and food crops for local consumption and export.

It will be government policy for all big companies and agricultural enterprises operating in Uganda to sell shares to Ugandans.

Companies such as MTN will no longer be owned by a few individuals while at the same time taking out huge amounts of money.

DP will fill up to the brim the pools of democracy, which have been empty for the 1ast 39 years.
