SC VILLA coach Sam Timbe believes the weight to bring back the CECAFA champions winning form rests on the technical committee.

Timbe has just witnessed the Jogoos end their first trophy-less season since 1997 with Police dethroning them in the super league and KCC ejecting them from the Kakungulu Cup.

In an interview yesterday, Timbe who sounded upset with their 2004/05 performance said it was the duty of his technical committee to utilise the forthcoming FUFA transfer window to improve his playing staff.

“Everybody saw what happened and it is upon the club’s technical committee to make the right decisions to bring back the team next season. But leave me out of it,” Timbe said.

According to FUFA normalisation committee competitions chairman Kavuma Kabenge the 2005/06-transfer window would open October 24.

Timbe, who club officials had earlier in the season accused of benching senior players for junior ones, hinted that Villa was likely to lose key players during the transfer exercise.

Only players who have served two years at their current clubs would be allowed to move.

A number of top Villa players including strikers Bernard Mwalala and Robert Ssentongo, and goalkeeper Dennis Onyango have been unsettled at the club ever since they returned from Mwanza.

Reports close to the club also indicated that they were on the verge of signing Kenyan goalkeeper Simon Mwangi from Nzoia FC.

They denied reports that they were rooting to recruit Cranes and KCC striker Geoffrey Sserunkuuma.

“These reports are totally baseless,” a Villa official said. “Yes we are starting a recruitment drive for next season but Sserunkuuma in not one of our targets.”

Villa have meanwhile, landed invitations to Tanzania and Ethiopia for friendly games in December and January respectively.
