KAKUNGULU Cup finals are usually absorbing affairs, in which pomp, ceremony and the weight of the occasion tend to squeeze the life out of the football contest.

Yet if there were to be any final that will besides that guarantee a nerve and goal-laden blockbuster of a match, today’s contest between cup holders KCC FC and URA fits the bill.

The 31st cup final that pits two different footballing institutions, already presents a couple of unknowns among several catalysts for thrills at Nakivubo Stadium.

Will URA break the duck, upset predictions and emulate counterparts Police by stunning yet another giant in a major cup final?

Both teams dug into their reserves of mental strength, superior organisation with fine play when it mattered most in the semi-finals, and are just a game away from glory.

In a case of the irresistible force meeting the immovable object, the match will be a battle between the ‘flowing football’ of KCC and the traditional ‘aerial style’ of URA.

KCC, striving to secure its ninth title, will as usual play with the freedom of spirit that comes naturally, while URA will be organised and thoughtful — hoping to work out all the moves beforehand.

URA have neither the personnel nor desire to play the sort of open, attacking football that would leave the crowd breathless, but an early KCC goal will certainly force them out of their shell.

While KCC start as favourites, URA’s credentials should not be underestimated. In Joseph Mutyaba, Phillip Obwiny and David Kiwanuka, they possess a troop of veterans, who have won it before and might thrive on the occasion.
