KAMPALA City Council (KCC) has extended UTODA’s tender to manage taxi operations in Kampala for five more years, effective October 1.
The council, however, increased UTODA’s monthly contribution from sh260m to sh290m, following an increase in the number of taxis.
The previous three-year tender expired on september 30.
The council also directed UTODA to maintain the current charges imposed on drivers. They include sh45,000 for a daily receipt, sh20,000 for a monthly sticker and sh10,000 paid by special-hire taxi drivers.
Meanwhile, the council agreed that the redevelopment of the Old Taxi Park into a modern vehicle terminal be jointly done by KCC and UTODA.
It was agreed that after redeveloping the park, UTODA would run it for 20 years in order to recover the money invested.
The decisions were made on Friday during a council meeting presided over by the council speaker, Sarah Kanyike Sebagala.
The council also approved 12 applications for redevelopment of the park periphery.
