Francis Nyangweso warned yesterday. This follows the vandalisation of the only standard ring at the Constitutional Square on Sunday. The equipment had been hired out by National Council of Sports for a prayer concert but was returned without a number of vital parts including fasteners. According to Nyangweso, a ring is technically meant to carry at most the weight of three people—two boxers and a referee. “Rings are not supposed to be used for any other thing apart from boxing,†said Nyangweso who is also an AIBA official. “If they get spoilt I don’t think we can afford any at $100,000,†he added. But the national boxing rings are normally used for various concerts around Kampala. Uganda received a donation of five rings from Japan in 1990. Ends
