A solar energy loan scheme to enable FINCA members and non-members easily access power for domestic use has been launched.
During an interview at FINCA’s head offices on Ben Kiwanuka Street in Kampala recently, the body’s operations manager, Robert Ongodia, said the FINCA Energy Saving Loan or FINCA Solar Loan Product would be launched in November.
He said there had been pilot projects in Jinja, Kampala and Masaka for three months.
“FINCA wants to improve the living conditions of Ugandans. This will enable many people in areas which lack hydro power access solar power at a reasonable cost. Solar energy is environmentally friendly, cost-effective, fully-satisfying and improves standards of living,” Ongodia said.
He said FINCA had signed agreements with two firms, Ultratech Limited and Solar Energy for Africa to provide the solar energy and more companies would be approached.
