Mujasi lost to the former interim Movement chairman, Joram Mayasa, on the chairman’s post, while Wasieba lost to mohammad Masaba on the post of secretary for publicity.

Mujasi, who kept pacing around during the voting and counting of the ballot papers, conceded defeat. He shook hands with Mayasa.

Wasieba, however, disappeared into the crowd shortly after the NRM district registrar, Yakoub Dungu Makawa, declared the results.

The district vice-chairman, Swalik Wasswa, became the NRM vice-chairperson, a post he contested for with a councillor, Jonathan Nagwere.

The LC3 chairman for Nakaloke sub-county, Hajji Zubairi Galiwango, defeated London-based lawyer Peter Magomu Mashate on the post of general secretary.

A renowned Mbale businessman, Hajji Haruna Musiwa, was elected secretary for finance.

Mayasa and Masokoyi were carried shoulder high by a jubilant crowd that stormed the streets of Mbale town gyrating their waists to traditional drums.

In Kaberamaido, the elections for the mainstream posts were put on hold after voters from Kalaki walked away in protest over a remark by one of the candidates.

The exercise was postponed to Wednesday, said a member of the district executive committee.

In Moroto, former deputy resident district commissioner Andrew Keem Napaja was elected chairman.
