SEVENTY-TWO journalists have been nominated for this year’s Broadcaster Awards. Ernst and Young’s Aggrey Baidu announced the nominees during a Press Conference at Speke Hotel’s Rock Gardens last Friday.

Four journalists were selected from each of the 18 categories. Some of the nominees are:

  • Leeban Omar (WBS)

  • Dorothy Nakaweesi (Daily Monitor)


  • Morning Show Award
  • Morning Crew (Capital Radio)
  • Binsanga Wano (Radio Simba)

  • KFM Today (KFM)

  • Eyajja Okkola (Akaboozi ku bbiri)


  • News Anchor Award for Radio
  • Patricia Okoed (Capital Radio)

  • Halima Uthman (KFM)

  • Aisha Ssematiko (Dembe fm)

  • Trinity Kisinde (Radio One)


  • Other categories include: Best Female Presenter (radio, television), Best Male Presenter (radio, television), Free Press, News Anchor for Television, Best Radio/TV Show Producer, Comic Character Radio Award, Community Awareness Award, Exceptional Performance for Entertainment (radio/TV), Talk Show Award (Vernacular, English), Spot Feature Reporters Award, Life Time Achievement and Journalist of the Year Award.

    The respective winners will receive their awards at Sheraton Kampala Hotel on Saturday, November 5 an occasion which will be graced by President Museveni.

    Desree Barlow, the Chairperson of the Broadcast Forum, an organisation that organised the Broadcaster Awards said the nominees had been selected not because of popularity, but because of their relevance to the community.

    Barlow, who was reluctant to disclose the prizes said the Best Journalist of the Year would take home sh5m.
