Fashion and Beauty professionals share their secrets on how to sparkle at weekend party nights.

Ruthy Kibirige, choreographer for Miss Uganda I suggest a long soak in a hot bath. Shut the door and let it get really steamy inside there. This helps plump up the skin, gets the circulation going and gives you a healthy glow. Then massage a rich body cream onto your skin and keep yourself warm in a gown for 20 minutes. If you do this, you will achieve a beautiful soft skin. I apply very light make-up before going for evening parties. A lot will make you appear like you have several coloured patches on your skin, especially if you stand below those party lights. Use bolder lipstick and eyeliner when going out for an evening party. The bolder your eyes appear by night, the more charming you will appear at the party. Leave that shoulder bag at home. Small purses have always been the in-thing for evening parties.
Sarah Kizito, Lady Charlotte Beauty Parlour Hair is very important. Bad hair equals a bad night. Blow-drying your hair and applying a colour spray will give you a sassy party look. Before applying make-up, I always splash my eyes with icy cold water a few times. This tightens up any bags and circles from beneath my eyes.
Jessica Kyeyune, former Miss Uganda I will never be caught at a party with bags beneath my eyes because I make sure I get enough sleep the night before. Whenever I get the chance, I quaff a glass of ice-cold water. Mary K moisturiser adds a shimmery glow to my face, neck and arms. I think my exercise routine also helps me keep in shape. I squat, kick and skip every morning.
Pauline Nakiboneka, manicurist Facial blotting papers are a must –– they are a quick way of making your make-up look fresh for the night ahead. I will leave the mask on for 20 minutes while painting my toenails. It makes me feel delicious! I then apply polish to my fingers and also put a thin layer of lace on top. The lace should contrast with the nail colour for full effect. Remember, you are out there to have fun at the party. So be a little crazy –– you are never too old to experiment with new colours.

I like to wear simple things with one unique accessory to twist the look. Sometimes, I may just cleanse my face, apply lip sheen, comb my hair sideways and go out for the party. Fresh air is a great fortifier, so getting out for a brisk walk before spending several hours in a smoke-filled room can work wonders for the skin. A massage too is good. It helps you look alive and healthy even when you are feeling worn-out after work.
Carolyne Wanza, International fashion week model I pamper myself for several hours before going out for a stand-up cocktail party. A massage would leave me relaxed enough to keep standing all throughout the party. Wear dark dresses in the evening and top up with a brightly coloured shawl. Know your theme and keep to it. If you wear an African-inspired ‘Kitenge’, then you cannot put on a skirt that has sequins or mirrors. If you choose to wear golden earrings, then you don’t have to put on a silver necklace. And remember, the nail varnish should be near to the colour of the dress.

Norah Nagendo, cosmetology and fashion design student Go for a more sophisticated hairstyle, with several extensions and colour. Finish with a spray for extra sheen. (You need to book in at the salon early enough) Get the manicure done at the salon too.

Cleanse your face with a mix of lemon and carrot juice. It costs nothing at all and yet subdues the oily skin. Go for glowing eye shadow; say silver or electric purple; everyone will notice you even in the dim lights. Use glowing lipstick too, but the lip liner must be of the same colour.
