Statesman!

SIR — I believe that when finally Uganda’s history —true history — is written, president Yoweri Museveni will be mentioned as the founder of modern, democratic Uganda. By forgiving Dr. Milton Obote, Museveni has shown, once again, that he is a real statesman. When I was a child, I could not imagine how Obote could be paraded alondside people like Jomo kenyatta, Julius Nyerere and Kenneth Kaunda as an African liberatior while at the same time his Special Forces unleashed terror in Uganda. My parents and I slept in the forest in 1966 while Obote’s troops maimed raped and killed at will. To forgive such a man takes a special vision from god!
