THE Uganda Society for Disabled Children (USDC) has launched a website dedicated to combating exclusion of persons with disabilities in the country.

The multiple-link website, www.usdc.or.ug, has two menu featuring the project history, annual reviews, a photo gallery, news and updates. It also provides the public an opportunity to donate on-line, submit questions and comments via e-mail.

Speaking on Wednesday at the launch at USDC offices in Kamwokya, a Kampala suburb, USDC council member Abhay Agarwal said the website would be instrumental in keeping the public informed on the concerns of children with disabilities, who he said were grossly neglected and considered a curse.

“With this website, we believe that different actors can utilise the resourceful information to respond to the concerns of children with disabilities,” Agarwal said, adding, “It will educate the public that disabled children are neither a burden nor a curse.”

The USDC policy officer, Connie Tinka, said out of over 800,000 children with disability in Uganda, only about 6,000 were directly assisted each year by the organisation in 15 districts.
