STAR badminton player Edwin Ekiring will captain four other stars, travelling to Scotland for the Scottish Badminton Open. The tournament is due in Glasgow November 24-27.

This is the first time Uganda is sending a team of players for an international tournament outside Africa.

The East and Central Africa top seed, who has had training in both South Africa and Germany, courtesy of the International Olympic Solidarity and the International Badminton Federation (IBF), will use the Scotland Open as a build up for next year’s Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia.

Ekiring departs today. Also making the trip are Abraham Wogute, Phiona Nakalema and Sauda Nabaweesi.

National coach Simon Mugabi, who has been handling the players’ training at Lugogo Indoor Stadium, will be the delegation head.

“It is good for him (Ekiring). The young man needs more of such competitions ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. It will help him gauge himself,” said Mugabi.
