BRITISH-based Jackson “Action” Asiku will relinquish his Africa Boxing Union (ABU) featherweight title for Commonwealth featherweight shot. He will on Friday challenge Marc Callaghan at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Essex for the title.

This will be the biggest break for the Ugandan fighter having already stumped his name on the boxing scene in the Pacific Rim where he was a two time Australian featherweight champion.

“It is a great break through for him and I think he is capable of winning the fight,” Celestino Mindra, Commonwealth Boxing Council member, said.

“We wish him luck and hope that this will pave way for him to vie for bigger fights.”

Asiku returns to the ring after an impressive win over Frenchman Frederic Gosset last month improving his record to 18-3-0(8 KOs).

His British opponent was a recent winner over Ian Napa for the British super bantamweight title.

Ugandan fighters have always been an embarrassment when fighting for Commonwealth titles.

The list includes veterans Francis “Machoman” Kiwanuka, who was a loser to Dean Pithie in round two. Mike Kizza, lost to Alex Arthur in round one by way of knockout while Adam Katumwa lost to Jaime Moore.
