FRANK Olal and Morris Lawoko spurred Gulu-based Murchison Hawks to their first league title and a promotion to the premier league Yello Max Conference next season.

Hawks won 85-80 in the fourth playoff match against Livingstone of the MTN Yello Go Conference to take the series 3-1 at the YMCA courts on Sunday.
Hawks rebounded from a 16-09 first quarter deficit, with Olal (21) and centre Lawoko (19) exhibiting exceptional skills.
Dennis Akena also collected 31 points and 4 assists for the Hawks who secured an early 2-0 series lead at home in Gulu town last weekend before falling 88-82 to Stone on Saturday and regrouping Sunday evening for victory.

Elsewhere, deposed league champions Falcons and MUK-Sparks (women) guaranteed MTN basketball league third place finishings with victories over Warriors and Kampala City Council (KCC) Leopards respectively.

Robert Mubiru scored 14 points to lead a huge effort from the Falcons bench as the 2004 champions held on to a second-half lead for a close 71-68 victory over their Kyambogo-based rivals. Steven Okias scored 25 points and Ronnie Kasewu added 12 for Warriors who scored just 1-of-8 free throws as they squandered their chances to win the game.
