SHARES (U) Ltd, a certified European Union (EU) exporter of organic sim sim, has invested 60,000 euros (about sh129.6m) in a new treatment plant, the firm’s operations manager has said.
Ido de Vries said installation of the new plant aims at increasing exports to the Netherlands, France, Germany, Switzerland and the UK.
“We are undertaking a massive expansion programme in order to increase production and sales,” he said during an interview.
De Vries said they buy sim sim from 12,000 farmers in Apac and Lira.
According to EU Regulation 2092/91, the Mukono-based firm is certified as an organic processor and exporter. It doubled its exports from 300 to 600 tonnes over the last two years.
