By Frank Mugabi In Arua World 3,000m steeplechase champion Dorcus Inzikuru has appealed to Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) and Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) to give top stars a chance to participate in the Commonwealth Games.
Inzikuru may miss the games to be held next year in Melbourne, Australia due to a row over qualification criteria between UAF and UOC. The two bodies have openly disagreed over team selection.
Speaking in an interview with The New Vision in her home town of Arua on Thursday, Inzikuru said: “It will be bad for us because we have already sacrificed a lot to participate in these games. They (UAF and UOC) should cooperate.â€
She said that after steadily recovering from the October 25 bodaboda accident, she had been training hard for the Commonwealth Games and World Cross Country Championship among other competitions.
Inzikuru noted that she is confident enough to compete in all demanding races after a one and half month rest period that ended on Thursday.
She said she was eager to take part in the inaugural women’s steeplechase at the Commonwealth Games. Inzikuru is due to return to Kenya this week for training in Eldoret.
Meanwhile, the world star is still fond of travelling on motorcycles (boda boda) despite last month’s accident.
“These days the first thing I do is to caution whoever is going to ride to go slowly,†Inzikuru said. Ends
