SIR — I am now pushed to the limits with regard to rubbish disposal and hygiene in Kampala. I regret why I did not travel to Kisozi and join the lines to get the attention of the President regarding this ‘small’ matter that is causing me and I am sure many other Ugandans considerable stress before germs and vermin hold a successful coup.

I am sure there are many who, like me, spend half their time walking on the streets pinching their noses so as not to breathe in the stinking air as they pass by overflowing rubbish cans.

Recently KCC removed a huge garbage bin that was serving the area of Kabalagala. As a result, those who do not employ the services of private firms to dispose of their rubbish have taken to waiting for night time to litter the roads and pathways with garbage. I would like to know if the Mayor passes Kibuli road on his way to work and how he feels when he sees a whole pile of rubbish spilling onto the road right opposite Kibuli Hospital.

For those who stay in Mutungo or Luzira I am sure you have noticed an overflowing bin of rubbish on the side of the road, right in front of a seemingly busy butchery. How can KCC threaten to close down unsanitary eating places when they have failed to handle rubbish disposal and hygiene in the city?

How does KCC expect people to follow its directives when in fact hygiene is not its priority? Mr. Mayor, I hope that instead of the usual Christmas party at KCC gardens, you will present to Ugandans a clean and hygienic city that is ours to rightfully enjoy. That would be the best Christmas present yet.

For God and my Country.
