UGANDA’S top female drivers are expected to maintain their love affair with the Champion’s Sprint on Sunday with a big entry.

Nine women have confirmed participation in this year’s edition of the sprint at Garuga double track circuit. The sprint is the only event that attracts female drivers.

Laila Mayanja, who won the women’s category of the sprint last year, will come up against Rosette Nassali, Rose Lwakataka, Sarah Atuhaire, Safina Ssenyonjo, Susan Muwonge, Sarah Nanteza, Christine Namubiru and Farida Nambala.

The women will share five cars provided by Southern Motor Club (SMC).

Six buggies have also entered the race that will be spiced up with a motorcross championship.

“They train daily at Garuga. Their handling of rally cars is very impressive, I have no doubt they will entertain spectators,” said SMC vice president Dusman Okee.

The sprint dubbed ‘King of Champions’ has so far attracted 23 drivers.

The sprint, whose defending champion is Moses Lumala, is the last event on the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) 2005 calendar.
