HIGHER education state minister Simon Mayende has handed over scholastic materials worth over sh260m to schools in his Samia Bugwe South constituency in Busia district, reports Egessa Hajusu.

The items included textbooks for primary and secondary schools and science equipment worth sh90m.

Both private and government-aided primary schools in Masafu sub-county benefited from the books, that cover the syllabus for Primary Three to Primary Seven.

Other beneficiaries were Bukalikha high school, Masaba College and Lumino High that got textbooks and science equipment.

Handing over the donations to the recipients on Sunday at Masafu sub-county headquarters, Mayende appealed to headteachers not to keep the items in stores but to avail them to students as to improve the academic standards in the district.

He also cautioned them against selling the materials.
