UGANDA Revenue Authority (URA) will eliminate delays in clearance of goods when the body tightens regulations.
Rose K Wange, URA’s manager of the Customs Business Centre (CBC), said URA would strictly enforce the regulations that govern clearance of imports and exports.
“We have the major issues you raised and are going to do everything possible to ensure that your concerns are addressed most especially to get rid of delays in clearance of goods before the end of this year,” Wange said.
She was responding to questions during a tax clinic for clearing and forwarding agents at Uganda Management Institute in Kampala over the weekend.
Herbert Dokoria of Swift Forwarders said they had lost clients due to delays by URA staff while clearing imports and exports.
Wange asked the agents to desist from issuing entries with errors.
She also asked them to avoid presenting big volumes of entries and to disassociate from idle discussions with customs staff to avert delays.
Wange promised to take stern action against CBC staff who would delay cargo handling.
Sadiq Amako, a URA supervisor at the Domestic Tax Department, issued hotlines for reporting cases of delays in the clearance and other issues concerning the tax body.
“You have raised some issues that deserve a follow-up. I am issuing you phone numbers of some resourceful officers you should contact whenever you have a query,” Amako said.
