By Gilbert Mwijuke UGANDAN artistes will get a chance to perform alongside American star Wyclef Jean when he tours Kigali, Rwanda next month.
This proves the escalating popularity of Ugandan music in Rwanda, where it seems to have made a commendable impact.
Just a few months ago, local stars Bebe Cool, Juliana Kanyomozi and Bobi Wine worked up revellers in Kigali with performances that left many Rwandese yearning for more.
The Ugandan artistes lined up for performances in Kigali include local dancehall king Mr. Mosh, the Ngoni of the Diggi fame, Ziggy Dee of the Eno Mic fame, R&B singer Dorothy Bukirwa and Benon and Vampos of the Nsazewo hit.
Kenya’s high-flying Longombas will also join the Ugandan contingent.
Wyclef Jean is an acclaimed songwriter and singer. He is also a producer and has worked with pop, R&B and hip-hop musicians including Whitney Houston, Tevin Campbell and the Destiny’s Child.
The former lead Fugees rapper is popular for songs like 911 and Killing Me Softly. He also wrote Houston’s Yo Love Is My Love.
Jean is slated to hold two concerts in Kigali. The first one will be held at the Rwandese Cultural Centre in Kigali.
The tour is organised by Flash FM, a Rwandan private radio station, which has been instrumental in promoting Ugandan music in Rwanda and is supported by the Rwandan Ministry of Health.
