Help, I could be getting impotent

Dear Doctor,
I am 25 years old, single and I haven’t had sex for some time. When I am with my girlfriend I don’t get turned on. Once in a while, in the mornings, I may feel something, though not a full erection. I am worried. Could I be on the verge of getting impotent?
S.P

Dear S.P,
Impotency is the failure to have an erection, or maintain it to your satisfaction during sex with your partner. This may occur for a brief period and may be related to factors like; drinking too much alcohol, being too tired or psychological factors. True, impotence is taken as failure to have a satisfactory erection about half of the time.
This is different from desire. Even when impotent, one may have the desire to have sex but not be able to get a satisfactory erection.
When you lack desire, you just do not feel like having sex. The desire to have sex is a very psychological process. You are turned on by what you see, feel, touch and expect. It has much to do with how desirable you find your partner. Do you feel guilty having sex with your girlfriend? Do you feel pressured? Impotence is considered a symptom. There may be an underlying medical problem, which is why it is important to see a doctor about it. It is quite likely the problem is not impotence.
Make sure you are not under pressure to have sex, or too tired after work. Talk to a doctor or a close friend and you will be able to resolve the problem satisfactorily.

Dear Doctor,
For five years now, whenever I shower, my body itches for about 15 minutes. This has been happening. My doctor tells me it is an allergy. What is the cause? What can I do about it?
Ivan

Dear Ivan,
Skin itching after bathing is a common condition. For some, it starts after changing the water they are used to for example after going to the village. For others, it happens with only cold water.
Most doctors believe that it is an allergy. An allergy is when your body starts reacting to common things in the environment, by itching. The itching is caused by the release of some substances by special skin cells.
As an allergy, the best cure is to avoid the trigger. It is not the water that you are allergic to. It is something in the water. If your water was very pure, you would not have the reaction. Filtering the water may help you.
If you cannot avoid the irritant, control the symptoms. If the symptoms are mild, ignore them. They will not worsen. Have a chat with your doctor if you need more help.
