THERE is something groovy about new-age fashion. Its appeal is romantic, but not at all restrictive (But that is just the lifestyle we crave for).
So, today, the sporty look isn’t constricted to basketball courts or football stadia.

Tracksuits, sweatshirts, jerseys, shorts, basketball vests and tank tops have become the ‘in-thing’ everywhere.
At this year’s Fashion Week, Latif Kasumba breathed new life onto the catwalk when his model showcased a lime green tracksuit, vest, baseball cap and sneakers. The model was, literally, dripping with attitude. Sportswear can indeed be cool!

On the streets, fashion savvy girls have decided to replace the low-slung jeans with baggy track pants that have flap pockets at the buttocks. Along with these, they wear tank tops or very short shirts (commonly called kundi show). The girls’ look is part sexy, part stylish, but utterly sensuous; just the casual girl next door. If you are fed up of that glam doll image reflected by mini and high-slit long skirts, try the sporty chic.

“Obviously, in terms of fashion, we are not talking about active sports but a gear that is wearable by all and is high on comfort, as it may have extra seams added to facilitate movement which look good and feel great,” says Kasumba of the hip designer label Latif.

Dull colours like navy blue and gray have been replaced by brighter pastels like lemon, lime green, sky blue and pink.
Baseball caps and sneakers have been a favourite ever since Brenda Zobbo released Why you cheating on me?.

But who does not know that sunglasses have always been a symbol of style? There is nothing that complements a sport-inspired fashion as perfectly as a good pair of sunglasses.

Sunglasses add mystery and allure to a anyone’s persona.

A good pair will transform your look from that of a wannabe to that of a celebrity or pop idol. Oversized sunglasses are very much in. But make sure they complement the face.

Big shades suit thin faces. Square or geometric shapes suit round faces and cat’s eye for long faces.

Like the sporty trend? Here are a few more accessories you might need. A woollen cap or headband may help on bad hair days.

A small multi-pocketed shoulder bag, probably made of suede. This may also work as a salon bag and you can carry your swimming gear in there.
Ponytails go well with sporty chic. So you might want to begin drawing your braids backwards.
